Fallon Bowman Returns to the Bar

Finally...singer, writer, composer, and guitarist Fallon Bowman returns to our Bar.  Going solo once more, her third album, Human, Conditional drops January 25, 2011.

Now...when last we looked, you were heading Fallon and the Grace Dynasty.

There has been a shift from 'band' to solo artist. I know it's a little confusing, but it was an internal decision.

The people that played on my record were all extremely talented American musicians from all walks of life. I had written all of the songs and brought it for them to bring to life. The producer, Justin Johnson, did a great job taking my varied songs and really bringing out the rock edge on 'tape'.

How would you describe the sound you created together?

The sound that was subsequently created is a soulful rock with a hard edge at times.

At the moment I don't work with a co-writer, so it's just me messing around on a guitar figuring out melodies. Sometimes I start with a synth part and build from there. Sometimes I will hear the cadence of environmental sound and think of the syncopation of a melody. I listen to the sounds of the world - it sounds reeeeally cheesy but it's true - I get most of my ideas out of nowhere.

Okay, so you’re going solo again.  How do you feel about being back in the driver’s seat?

Being fully in the driver's seat is so sweet. I go where I want to go, and do it on my time. Obviously, this isn't without its mass responsibility. I have to make sure everything is in the right place.

Does Human, Conditional have a theme?

Human, Conditional does have a theme - it is essentially the life and death of a relationship - it's highs, its lows, and all the dirty details in between. I think to some degree humans make the choice to be human - the conditions are all there to make choose...flip between rational, and irrational, for love and not love, it seems so either, or...but I suppose that's how life is sometimes.

Commenters on YouTube were talking about how confident you are on stage now.  Do you feel more self-assured?

I do feel more confident absolutely, before I was like okay, just play and then that's it. I feel like I've grown a lot in that interaction is the most important. People want to feel like they are in a small room with you - close and intimate, like there is a great interaction going on between you and them. It's so important, because that's what makes a show memorable - that connection.

Your vids on YouTube look like a blast.   Do you have any new shows lined up?

No new shows, but I am certainly working on doing just that. It's such an important part of my career - essentially the lifeblood. You have no idea how excited I am!
I want to do shows all over so that no one is left out. :)

As I was saying in our conversations, I’m very proud of you. When you struck out on your own the first time, I waited anxiously for your first album and bought it as soon as it came out. When I heard you were coming out with a second, I was overjoyed. And what I’ve heard so far from your third album sounds phenomenal. Like the rest of your fans, I'm sure, I feel like I've been on this really awesome journey with you.

Thank you so so much for your support. It means an immense amount to me!

  2. Whoa. That is deep. I love Fallon. I wanna check out this solo piece. :)

It definitely adds to the idea of people, and society, being responsible for both goodness and badness. Yes, we make the choice to be human. And we can also make the choice to be rapists. So please, no victim blame!
